Confederacy AdvantagesThe confederacy advantages By Arber June 2, 2015
The South had many advantages. The three main advantages that the south had were better generals such as Robert E. Lee, fighting a defensive war, and were more familiar with the land that they were fighting on since it was in the south. These advantages helped the south fight the north. The first advantage that they had was that they had better generals and leaders. One superior general was Robert E. Lee. Robert E. Lee was born January 19, 1807 and is from stratford virginia. He graduated from the United States military academy and learned from going to the academy. Robert E. Lee chose to invade Pennsylvania to forage and, more importantly, to take some pressure off of Virginia. This was a good decision which showed how he was one of the better generals. The second advantage that they were fighting a defensive war. Fighting a defensive war is much easier to fight than an attacking war. This is because you can act to a move an aggressor is doing rather than having to make the first move yourself. All they had to do to win the war is to hold their ground which they were not successful with. The third advantage was that it was their own land. The south were familiar and knew what to do on their home-turf. For example, one place that they fought in was maryland. They knew spots where they can sneak up on enemies which was called guerrilla warfare. Also the south needed to wait longer for weapons since they didn’t use machines to make their weapons, and they were also smaller in population. The south needed to make good use of fighting on their home land. In conclusion, the south benefited from better generals, fighting a defensive war, and fighting on their home-turf. These advantages almost lead them to winning the war. It turns out the North’s advantages helped them more than the south’s did and they were able to win the civil war. |
