Military Leadership5/31/1870
Roman Putnam Military Leadership 7 years ago, in the heat of the Civil War, the Union battled the Confederates to keep the Union together. Many also fighted to end slavery. Before this bloody war, Lincoln knew that the country could not stay together half slave and half free. How did the Union win the war? They had many great advantages such as the military leadership that the soldiers had. This key part in their army helped them win over the confederates in the bloody civil war. The leadership that the US had during the civil war started way before the Civil war when the US was in a deep revolutionary war with the royal army. The US army was losing, and they needed a way to win their freedom from Britain. The much needed leadership was influenced by proffesional military academies and hard earned command experience of many generals such as Ulysses Grant. (Left) The West Point Military Academy, served as one of the schools that taught the experience that the leaders of the Military at the time had. When the country split during the civil war, so did the military leadership. Soldiers that went to the same military academy thought differently and fought against each other. The West Point Military Academy had a wide variety of views of the war. There were several students that went upon each other and killed each other in the war.
How did the union end up winning? They didn't have the best leadership, but the way the commanders told the soldiers to fight was the key part in winning the war. The soldiers were ordered to destroy everything in their path to the sea. They did what they were told. They destroyed towns, buildings, and armies. The south backed down and the Union won the war. In conclusion, military leadership was a key role in helping the Union army win the war. They had a fantastic navy, and a fantastic military leadership. Slavery should have never happened, and without the Leadership of the US, slavery would have never been abolished.
